Exciting news to share! The Kayenta Arts Foundation met its deadline and achieved its initial goal, to raise $150,000 in pledge donations by March 1, 2013, for the new Kayenta Center for the Arts! The $150,000 good faith pledge was a prerequisite of the builders of the Center’s “shell,” as they wanted to ensure true community support for the project. Needless to say, everyone involved with the project thus far has been thrilled with the enthusiasm shown for the Center. The Foundation has also received its Conditional Use Permit by the Ivins Planning Commission, on March 19th, so construction of the building will begin shortly. We’ll keep everyone posted with the details for the official groundbreaking, tentatively scheduled for early May, so you can attend the ceremony and join in the celebration! A huge thanks to all of you who have contributed thus far to help make the Arts Center a reality.
We still have a long road ahead of us, as we need to raise additional funds for the interior and contents of the building, so if you’d like more information on the Arts Center and/or would like to contribute, please contact Garry Morris at kayentaartsfoundation@gmail.com. You can also go to the Kayenta Arts Foundation’s website, www.kayentaartsfoundation.org, to view the promo video for the Center and review the Building Fund brochure. And finally, a special thanks to Garry Morris and Kent Harrison Hayes for spearheading the fundraising campaign for the new Kayenta Center for the Arts. Why not join us and be a part of the art? Help the Kayenta Center for the Arts become the premier venue in the greater Southern Utah area for diverse artistic endeavors!
It is with great pride that we brag about our very own Kayenta Arts Foundation Director, Aimee Bonham, who was invited to be a guest artist in Bangkok, Thailand at their amazing Living Arts Festival held recently. Aimee continues to be Event Coordinator for our 3rd annual Street Painting Festival in Kayenta. Obviously, the world recognizes Aimee’s talents, and we are extremely pleased to have her on our Board and orchestrating the 2013 Street Painting Festival. This event is coming up in just two weeks, Saturday and Sunday, April 13th and 14th, held outdoors in the Coyote Gulch Art Village, admission is free.
It’s not too soon to put the 14th Annual Art in Kayenta on your social calendar, October 11th, 12th and 13th, Friday thru Sunday, which coincides with the Huntsman Senior Games. Commemorative posters are coming soon. Even though this is the 14th year, and historically held in unpredictable February weather, this is the first year Kayenta Arts Foundation will be presenting this event. The success of the artists Quick Draw last year has inspired us to bring back the 2nd Annual Quick Draw that same weekend, with even more art and artists featured this year.
Directors work diligently to bring a variety of visual and performing arts to the greater southern Utah area. Announcements of events are made in the Kayenta Connections and on the KAF website and via KAF’s e-mail list. If you would like to be added to this list or if you have suggestions for an event or comments about a past event, please feel free to contact us at kayentaartsfoundation@gmail.org or the Board Chair at judithk@kayentaartsfoundation.org. Your input is important to us.
